Delayed harmattan and heat waves in Nigeria showing dry air and intense sunlight

Harmattan and climate change in Nigeria are becoming increasingly linked as familiar seasonal patterns begin to shift. Traditionally, harmattan arrives between November and December, bringing cooler mornings, dry air, and

Every new year arrives with an unspoken demand: A new year become someone else reinvention. New goals. New habits. New energy. New identity. The message is subtle but persistent: that

Rest in a Culture
29Dec2025

Minds are overstimulated. Souls are quietly longing for stillness. Yet even at the edge of the year’s end, rest often feels conditional, something to be earned after deadlines are met, goals are achieved, and loose ends are tied.

My Quiet Time

I felt a quiet unease, one I couldn’t quite shake. I hadn’t been studying the Bible as consistently as I should.

A Journey Across the Niger Delta
29Dec2025

This journey started with the close-out meeting for the Fellows of the Intersectional Leadership Incubator (ILI), a group selected from across the ten states of the Niger Delta

He Makes All Things Beautiful in His Time It was a Wednesday night after I had just returned from work. I had barely dropped my bag not even ten seconds when a scream pierced through the quiet. It was so intense that I froze, unsure whether to run out or hide under the table. After a few seconds of listening closely, I recognized the voice, it was my neighbour. It wasn’t the first time I’d heard her scream, but this one sounded different. I’ll come back to that moment later. 1. The Quiet Strength Next Door I’ve known her for about a year now. Beyond our occasional “hello, how are you?” exchanges, I mostly kept to myself. But over time, I found myself quietly admiring her - her calm spirit, her humility, unassuming, and the peaceful aura she carried. These are traits that naturally draw me to people, yet I kept my distance, watching from afar. One night, typical of our NEPA situation, the power had been out for days. I stepped out to the compound to pick up my phone from the small solar-powered station we all shared. That’s when I saw her. It was almost 1:00 a.m. She was carrying one of her children, and another neighbour was by her side. They were making urgent arrangements to get the child to the hospital. I got to know her story. She was a mother of two children living with sickle cell anaemia. Life had dealt her several heavy blows, she had lost her banking job, her small food export business, and even her husband, who was meant to share this burden with her. Meanwhile, according to her, some people had advised her to give the children “mercy death.” But she refused. Instead, she chose to hold firmly to her faith in God, trusting that His mercy would speak louder than her pain. 2. The Temptation of “Good Advice” Hmmm… allow me to digress a little here. Be careful of beautiful and sound advice from people especially those who barely know your story. That you are saved is enough, even if Jesus doesn’t do more. Remember the story of the young prophet and the old prophet. The worst that could have happened to the young prophet, if he hadn’t heeded the misleading counsel, was that people would call him arrogant or proud but he would have lived. While sharing this testimony, someone also said to me, “Why would she make such a mistake by marrying a carrier in this age and time?” Maybe that person had a point. But listen, never allow your mistakes to define you. Never let anyone give you an identity that Christ has not given you. Always search for that still, small voice in every situation. 3. Childlike Faith that Moves Mountains Now, back to my story. I had seen her go in and out of hospitals countless times. I’d quietly said “Amen” whenever I heard a prayer that mentioned her case. And in my personal prayers, I’d asked God to show her mercy. Some weeks ago, when the younger child had another crisis, she asked her older sibling, “Can God heal us?” The older one replied, “Yes.” “Then why hasn’t He healed us?” she asked again. And with childlike faith, the older one said, “He makes all things beautiful in His time.” That simple statement became a turning point for them. It’s also beautiful to mention that whenever they’re not in the hospital, the children always gather the other kids in the compound for fellowship every weekend. Their little voices would sing, pray, and laugh together. 4. When Heaven Intervenes Then came the crusade organized by Dunamis International a few weeks ago. That night, something extraordinary happened - God visited not one, but both of them. Their genotypes changed from SS to AS. I’m still in awe of this wonder. Through all the pain, this woman carried herself with grace and unwavering faith. I truly believe that even if God had not changed their genotypes, her trust in Him would have remained firm. We return all glory to the Owner of the miracle - the Miracle-Working God! 🙌 5. Redemption Above All Yes, we thank God for the physical healing. But beyond that, whether you are SS, AS, or AA, the greatest testimony remains this: We have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus. May He keep us from falling, no matter the propaganda and noise around us, and just like our Master, may we be able to say: “The prince of this world came, and he has nothing in me.”

This true story reminds us that even when life feels unfair, God makes all things beautiful in His time.
